Budapest

The capital of Hungary is recognized as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Budapest is the place of the largest parliament in Europe, the largest active synagogue, and the first underground road on the continent. In this city, one can find the remains of buildings erected during the period of the Roman Empire and fortresses, Turkish baths, Gothic and Baroque monuments, and a number of extraordinary attractions of other periods. Budapest has earned the title "Queen of the Danube" and remains the only city in the world with almost a hundred sources of thermal water.

Despite the apparent development, Budapest has preserved its charm due to the nice combination of different styles of architecture, historical masterpieces, cafes, swimming pools, and cultural venues. The city is known for its hospitality which leaves a lasting impression.

The capital of Hungary is exceptionally rich in architectural monuments. There are dozens of artistic, historical, ethnographic museums, exhibition halls and art galleries.

The magnificent building of Parliament is considered to be the symbol of the city. Beautiful architectural monuments of the 18th-19th centuries are the object of pride in Budapest, with the Gothic Cathedral of King Matthias, the University Church, the building of the National Museum and many others among them. World famous are the collections of museums in Budapest. The Museum of Fine Arts exhibits works by Raphael, Botticelli, El Greco, Velazquez, and Rembrandt. And then there are theaters and the opera in the center of the capital, the famous Margit island between Buda and Pest, and about 50 Budapest baths with medicinal water. Some of them have been known for nearly two thousand years. Some of them are located directly in hotel complexes. Subterranean depths of Budapest have many mysteries and may present many discoveries to scientists. Under the city, there are large and small caves, and their total length is over 18 kilometers.

Gellert swimming pool was built on the site of thermal waters known since the ancient times. A short walk from the promenade at the Buda side, to the Freedom Monument on Gellert Hill gives a beautiful panorama of Budapest: modern hotels of international class, elegant shopping streets, cozy restaurants, cafes and snack bars. They promise a respite from the rapid life. In the evening, one can enjoy the views of illuminated bridges and the panorama of Buda. The center of Budapest radiates charm of the old imperial capital. The outlook of the city is shaped by the houses of the Habsburg era which are designed in their smart and strict style. Not far from the bustling Vorosmarty Square, there is the old Gerbeaud bakery, famous for its pastries. It is from here that the first pedestrian street in Budapest, Vaci Street, originates. It is noted for countless signs with the names of famous fashion designers, jewelers, and restaurateurs.

The city park Varoshliget has a lot of places of entertainment and is a cultural center. In the central part of the park, the Heroes Square, there is the Monument to the Millennium of Hungary. On the left, there is the Museum of Fine Arts with its rich collection of European paintings of the 12th-17th centuries. The park can bring much fun due to its roller coaster and numerous attractions. One can visit the circus, the Metropolitan Zoo or the Botanical Garden. The Danube dominates the wonderful sights of Budapest. The most beautiful buildings of the capital are on the river hills: Parliament, the Academy of Sciences, ancient and modern spa pools, Fishermen's Bastion, Matthias Church and the Citadel on Gellert Hill. Due to the river and its views, Budapest has taken a worthy place among the best cities in the world.
